How to unlock the Wizard
The Wizard evolves from **Mage** and is unlocked at **Mystic Lake 2 (Level 50)**. If you are not seeing the advancement option, you almost certainly have not completed the Mystic Lake 2 progression step rather than being underlevelled. Confirm the quest before assuming your level is the blocker.
What changes from Mage
Mage is a sustained caster with one element at a time. Wizard is a **burst caster that rotates three elements**, and the whole class is built around fitting maximum damage into short windows rather than maintaining steady output.
The three core spells are **Thunderstorm**, **Blizzard**, and **Chain Lightning**. Each has a distinct role:
- **Chain Lightning** is your filler. Low commitment, safe to cast while moving.
- **Blizzard** is your setup. It applies the effect that makes the other two hit harder.
- **Thunderstorm** is your payoff. Long cast, high damage, and the spell you build the rest of the rotation around.
Rotation order
The mistake most new Wizards make is opening with Thunderstorm because it has the biggest number. Because it is also the longest cast, opening with it means eating a full boss mechanic mid-cast and losing the damage anyway.
A safer order:
- **Blizzard** first, to apply its damage-taken debuff.
- **Chain Lightning** while the debuff is up and you still have freedom to move.
- **Thunderstorm** last, inside the debuff window, once the boss is committed to a mechanic you can stand through.
If the fight is mobile, drop Thunderstorm entirely and lean on the first two. A Thunderstorm that gets interrupted deals nothing, and the cast time is the entire cost.
Stat priority
The Wizard scales with **INT, DEX, and VIT**.
- **INT** is your damage stat. Note the soft cap: past 99 INT the Matk conversion drops significantly, so plan an endgame total rather than stacking indefinitely.
- **DEX** is the stat new Wizards underrate. It reduces cast time, and a Wizard that feels slow is usually short on DEX, not INT.
- **VIT** matters more here than on paper. You are the squishiest advanced class, so some VIT is mandatory for endgame content even on a pure-damage plan.
A workable leveling split is roughly three INT to one DEX, adding VIT once you reach content that can remove you in a single hit. Check the exact per-point conversions on the stats page before finalising an endgame allocation.
Weapons
Wizards use the **Staff of Eternus** and the **Skybreak Staff**. Which one you pursue depends on whether your bottleneck is raw Matk or cast speed. If you have already hit the INT soft cap, the cast-speed option will do more for your damage than more Matk.
Where the Wizard struggles
Be honest about the two weaknesses before committing:
- **Low mobility.** Every core spell except Chain Lightning wants you standing still.
- **Single-target is weaker than it looks.** The class is tuned around AoE bursts; on a pure single-target boss it will feel behind a Shinobi or Gunslinger of equal gear.
If your group already has two casters, consider whether the Echoing Spire Warden barrier flip will leave you with nothing to do during the magic-absorb phase. That fight specifically punishes single-damage-type parties.
Wizard vs Weaver
Both are advanced casters and they are easy to confuse. **Wizard** is a burst AoE class with a three-element rotation. **Weaver** is a sustained single-target class built around OmniBolt rotations. If you want to delete packs, go Wizard; if you want to delete bosses, read the Weaver guide instead.
